Silencio brings 35,000+ Web3 noise pollution sensors to the peaqosystem

What's happening?

Silencio, a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) comprising more than 35,000 smartphones working as noise pollution sensors, taps peaq as its layer-1 blockchain. This integration will help combat noise pollution with Web3 citizen science.

Why is it important?

Noise pollution causes health problems, but researchers often lack precise live data. Silencio is leveraging peaq to give people a way to gather vital analytics to help researchers and decision-makers combat noise pollution. The data is also of a great value to urban planners, real estate companies, entertainment venues, and many other players, which enables the community to monetize it.

What does this mean for the community?

By using the app, which is already live both on Google Play and on Apple App Store, anyone can join the fight against noise pollution by collecting data with their smartphone. Users that connect their devices to the DePIN will earn $NOISE tokens.

Noise.

It’s a part of everyday life. From an urban soundtrack of blaring cars, pedestrian clamor, and grating construction to the sirens and alarms of racing emergencies, noise is everywhere, even when we don’t consciously realize it. But this constant cacophony of sound is harmful. Noise pollution can cause health issues such as sleep deprivation, heightened stress levels, and loss of hearing.

It’s time to soothe the sounds.

Silencio Network has joined forces with peaq to combat noise pollution with Web3 citizen science. By utilizing peaq as its Layer-1 blockchain foundation, Silencio is decentralizing the rewards mechanism driving its decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN). The community-powered initiative rewards users for providing noise pollution data.

“Noise pollution costs billions in healthcare and other expenses. Silencio is using Web3 mechanisms and citizen science to crowd-source the data that will be crucial in solving this crisis. Its data will also enable such businesses as hotels, restaurants, and real estate companies to make more informed decisions when picking locations. This makes for an exciting and important Web3 use case that’s easy to join for anybody anywhere.” — Till Wendler, co-founder of peaq

With Silencio’s app—available on both iOS and Android—anyone can join the movement against noise pollution by collecting live local noise data with just a smartphone. In turn, users that share their gathered data will earn $NOISE tokens.

“Silencio's integration with peaq gives us the tools we need to put citizen science on Web3 rails. peaq’s machine-focused functions make it easier for DePIN companies to realize their projects quickly, and its machine rewards amplify our own incentive mechanism, which is why we chose peaq over other networks such as Solana. This integration is a major step toward our mission of granting community-sourced noise pollution data to researchers and decision-makers around the world.” — Thomas Messerer, CEO of Silencio Network.

As part of the app’s initial integration, Silencio will tap self-sovereign peaq IDs and store the hash for the user-collected data on peaq for authentication. Down the road, Silencio will use the peaq mainnet to unlock additional rewards for the community by providing extra $PEAQ tokens.
