MapMetrics is leveraging peaq IDs, now compatible with Solana, to build core functions of its DePIN on peaq, including data authentication and a community voting mechanism.
Why is it important?
MapMetrics brings a Google Maps-style navigation DePIN into the peaqosystem, introducing another Web3 use case with a lot of potential to the community and creating value for other projects building on peaq with its community voting pallet.
What does this mean for the community?
By expanding to the peaqosystem, MapMetrics is attracting more network activity and extending the reach of the entire ecosystem, which creates more value for everyone.
Free smartphone apps come at a price. As much as we all love a good freebie, those often come with strings attached, and with free content, you usually pay with your data. This very much applies to something as convenient as navigation apps, which often get to tap into your location data, sometimes, without much regard to privacy. And when a giant like Google gets to couple this data with everything it has on you from other sources, the result is your digital ghost that knows you better than you know yourself.
MapMetrics is ripping out the middleman by putting navigation on Web3 rails. By using location trackers, its users can share anonymized data with the MapMetrics network and earn tokens and NFTs as rewards. Because MapMetrics features its own ad engine, advertisers don’t get access to the community’s personal data, and the entire community benefits from the ad sales.

A Solana-originated project, MapMetrics will use peaq Multi-Chain Machine IDs to enable the devices on its network to connect with peaq. It will also build core functions of its navigation DePIN on peaq, using peaq IDs to authenticate and sign anonymized data that users collect. It will also build a community voting pallet, a pallet being a blockchain building block that other projects in the peaqosystem will be able to use for organizing votes. The pallet will enable the MapMetrics community to add speed cameras and other objects to the map and validate their location by voting.
MapMetrics’ expansion into the peaqosystem comes as peaq expands the compatibility of its Multi-Chain Machine IDs to Solana. The update will allow teams coming from the Solana ecosystem to use peaq’s DePIN functions without friction, enabling more projects to build on peaq and bring more value to the community and ecosystem.
