peaq joins the Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative (MOBI)

peaq has joined MOBI (Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative), the largest blockchain-focused mobility consortium which aims to build the new economy of movement. MOBI brings automotive companies and IoT providers together to create standards and build digital infrastructure for connected vehicles and devices with the ultimate goal of making transportation more efficient, equitable, decentralized, and sustainable.

“We’re thrilled to welcome peaq to the MOBI community! peaq brings critical expertise to the table as we accelerate development on the Web3 digital infrastructure for the New Economy of Movement. Together, we can move towards a secure and decentralized Economy of Things.” - Tram Vo, Co-director and Founder, MOBI

MOBI brings together many of the world’s largest mobility manufacturers and suppliers such as BMW, Ford, GM, Renault, Bosch, IBM, Hitachi and ZF, as well as startups, governments, NGOs, transit agencies, insurers, toll road providers, smart city leaders, and technology companies. ‘After developing multiple touchpoints with MOBI through our work in the mobility domain, we’ve joined MOBI to contribute more directly and collaborate with MOBI members on transitioning the mobility sector to Web3. We have been working in this field for over three years and believe that now is a good time to expand our collaboration to include more major players. The goal is to create an open mobility ecosystem in coordination with other ecosystem participants, instead of having multiple silos which stand in the way of open collaboration and innovation. We are looking forward to working on and applying the MOBI standards, offering our expertise to the MOBI ecosystem, as well as participating in and kicking off new projects. We look forward to working alongside all MOBI members in driving innovation across the automotive and mobility sectors,’ said Leonard Dorlöchter, co-founder at peaq.

peaq has been working in the mobility sector with a core focus on the automotive industry since its inception. In 2022, peaq will roll out the Electric Vehicle Charging dApp (decentralized application) on the peaq network, after years of development and consultation with some of the world’s largest vehicle manufacturers. As members of MOBI, peaq will be contributing to MOBI's brand new initiative, the DRIVES Program.

In 2021, peaq joined Gaia-X, the European association for data and cloud as part of the GAIA-X 4 Future Mobility MoveID Project and also became the first blockchain company to become an official member of the Verband der Automobilindustrie (German Automotive Industry Association). peaq will be using MOBI standards for the GAIA-X MoveID consortia, as well as for peaq’s electric vehicle charging dApp and other projects in the pipeline. DRIVES aligns well with peaq’s vision for a decentralized economy of things. Joining MOBI serves to further strengthen and expand peaq’s ties in the mobility sector while providing more opportunities for collaboration.
