SkyX joins the peaqosystem
In a nutshell: SkyX — a DePIN for crowdsourcing global, granular weather data — has joined the peaqosystem. As the home of SkyX, peaq will empower it to transform the global weather data markets and support the industries that rely on it by providing them with tailor-made analytical software. You will be able to buy a SkyX weather station and collect rewards for sharing local meteorological data.
Web3’s Cloud Atlas
Have you ever considered how much our world relies on precise weather data? Just think about it — quality meteorological insights are crucial for industries like agriculture, energy, aviation, or logistics. Imagine trying to grow crops without a single clue how dry the season will be or not paying a thought to the upcoming frosts when managing a power grid — doesn’t sound too smart, right?
So it’s no wonder that the global weather forecast market is on the rise. There is a problem though. Namely, the providers of weather data. These are often underfunded and inefficient government services, less often profit-driven private companies, but in all cases (at least as things stand today) highly centralized players. This leads to massive coverage gaps — especially in regions like Africa and South America. It can also often result in insufficiently granular data, making it much harder to observe trends in specific locations or train advanced AI models that could push the industry forward.
Enter SkyX — a DePIN for crowdsourcing quality granular weather data from all around the world. Thanks to its decentralized approach, SkyX is set to bridge the critical gaps in the current market. The SkyX weather station empowers communities in underserved areas to take matters into their own hands. By bringing their own stations online with SkyX, they can improve the local infrastructure and, in turn, their own quality of life. On the flip side, those in sufficiently covered regions can help collect even more detailed and specific data, ensuring more precise forecasts.
Anyone will be able to purchase a SkyX weather station, set it up in a convenient location, such as a backyard or a rooftop, and earn rewards in the project’s $SKY token. You can even bring the station along on your travels or hikes to cover more area while still earning rewards.
The data collected by the stations expands SkyX’s dataset and powers its weather platform, which will provide both consumer- and industry-facing meteorological services. The decentralized platform will include a powerful AI layer, comprising a variety of models, including a ChatGPT-style SkyXGPT helping users make sense of weather data through a natural language interface. SkyX will provide businesses and communities with industry-specific analytical software delivering tailored meteorological insights based on the crowdsourced global database. This brings the underlying DePIN model to the next level, with enterprise-grade software, not just the community-gathered data, being the product for the demand side.
As part of the integration with peaq, SkyX will leverage peaq IDs as the identity management standard for the smart weather stations on its DePIN. It will also leverage peaq for storing data in a transparent and immutable way. SkyX will launch its $SKY token natively on peaq, running its token generation event on the home of DePIN, and set up the reward distribution mechanism for data contributions on peaq as well.
“The weather data market relies on centralized players, which makes it inefficient and limits its reach and coverage. The DePIN model puts the power in the hands of the community — and will enable SkyX to leverage a thousands-strong network of weather stations all around the world, all run by and for the community. This gives us an industry-first dataset that is vast enough to power both large-scale meteorological modeling and forecasting and more localized calculations. As the home of DePIN, peaq is the perfect layer-1 for that due to its Modular DePIN Functions, including identity and data storage, and wide enterprise access.”
— Frank Fang, co-founder of SkyX
“The DePIN model has already convincingly proven its ability to power large-scale data crowdsourcing. SkyX applies this approach to weather data, a critical product for a vast array of major industries, exploring another exciting DePIN use case. We are thrilled to see it join the peaq ecosystem and look forward to its takeoff.”
— Leonard Dorlöchter, co-founder of peaq
