A Letter from the CEO

To our customers and partners and all who support us,

I'd like to start by thanking you for your support over the course of last year. Your guidance, collaboration, can-do attitude and unwavering support were especially appreciated and valued in a year as challenging as 2020.

2020 tested all of us, our organisations and institutions, our routines and beliefs, our private and professional lives and it even redefined what we consider 'normal'. The new year brings a sense of well-needed optimism. That optimism now needs to be channeled effectively, because as much as 2020 is over, many of the problems we faced head-on last year are not.

Humankind is facing a global crisis. A crisis of trust. Trust in government, trust in science and trust in one another is being ripped apart before our eyes. It is the largest crisis of our generation. This crisis paired with the exponential rate of technological advancement we are witnessing means the decisions taken today will impact the world of tomorrow more than ever before. Nobody knows for certain what exactly the world of tomorrow will look like, but we at peaq are certain we can play an important role in ensuring that our collective future is better than our present.

The cards holding up our systems and societies are being reshuffled. Physical, manual and analogue are on their final breath. The infrastructure upon which our future is being built is digital, there is no doubt about that. But what is the purpose of going digital if we are to simply repeat the same mistakes? We will just make the same mistakes faster. The shift to a digital world should be seen as an opportunity to look into the future and build based on what we all want and need that future to look like.

The people constructing the infrastructure of the future have a huge responsibility to ensure that our digital foundations are better than the foundations our societies, businesses and governments are built on today. That is to say that they are fair, open and resilient. That is to say that they foster boundless innovation, encourage meritocracy and good governance, and promote inclusive, sustainable industrialization.

We at peaq feel the weight of that responsibility and are invigorated by it. We live for it.

We are at the right time, in the right place, with the right team and the right technology to live up to this responsibility, and to positively shape the world of tomorrow. This infrastructure must handle more complexity than ever before. It must enable a hyper-connected world where humans and devices interact instantly, seamlessly and without error or pause.

A huge wave of Digital Twins - the digital counterparts of our cars, machines, sensors and devices - is already entering the digital world. They’re going to generate 2000% more data than is being generated today, by 2025. For this data to be effectively shared and traded in real-time and autonomously - it needs to be trusted. It needs to be trusted by all parties to an extent where trust is no longer even considered. Trust and authenticity will need to be verifiable and transparent. A built-in fabric of our technologically-enabled world. Quite the opposite of the world we inhabit in 2020.

We are building the infrastructure that enables this, and in enabling this we are enabling a new economy. The Economy of Things has no jurisdiction, nor is it tied to specific industries. It is the global layer of economic activity that will enable a future of autonomous vehicles, smart cities, free-flowing sustainable energy - of new ways of interacting, competing and collaborating.

We are thrilled to see our technology already making inroads towards this future and I would like to thank you for your part in supporting and enabling this on behalf of the entire team. To see our technology begin to impact companies and their industries is exciting. We are incredibly proud that we were able to secure two Fortune 100 companies as clients last year, with a third due in the coming months. Knowing that this is just the tip of the iceberg is many times more exciting.

2021 will be the most important year for peaq. After three years we have left ‘stealth mode’ and have started to give the world a glimpse of the power of our technology and the positive impact potential of peaq. There is so much more to come. Our competitors raised an average of $100m on the promise of what we are now delivering with a fraction of the resources. It is time to turn the tables.

We have always been humble, true to our philosophy of ‘underpromise, overdeliver’. We chose to provide measurable value first instead of talking in ‘ifs’ and ‘maybes’. There was a lot of noise in this industry when we began. Our value-first approach was always our strategy to cut through it. In 2021, we will cut through it.

Wishing you a happy and prosperous 2021.

Thank you,

Till Wendler
